we did it! we froze for 4 minutes at sunway pyramid to create awareness for world earth day! 1,300 people attended - now imagine if 1,300 people told a friend about conserving energy, and that friend told another friend, and another - then we'd be doing mother nature a huge favour!
conserving energy is not hard, nor does it take up much of your time, just simple life style changes is enough to save the world:
unplug seldom-used
appliances, like the TV in your guest room - or the fridge that is hardly used. you may save around RM40 every month on your
utility bill.
unplug your chargers when you're not charging. every house is full
of little plastic power supplies to charge cell phones, PDA's, digital
cameras, cordless tools and other personal gadgets. keep them unplugged
until you need them.
use power strips to switch off televisions, home theater equipment,
and stereos when you're not using them. even when you think these
products are off, together, their "standby" consumption can be
equivalent to that of a 75 or 100 watt light bulb running continuously.
enable the "sleep
mode" feature on your computer, allowing it to use less power during
periods of inactivity. In windows, the power management settings are
found on your control panel. mac users, look for energy saving settings
under system preferences in the apple menu.
configure your computer to "hibernate" automatically after 30
minutes or so of inactivity. the "hibernate mode" turns the computer
off in a way that doesn't require you to reload everything when you
switch it back on. allowing your computer to hibernate saves energy and
is more time-efficient than shutting down and restarting your computer
from scratch. when you're done for the day, shut down.
turn off the lights when you leave a room.
use recycled paper to write on instead of a fresh piece everytime.
sort your rubbish out into plastic + paper for your rubbish collector.
plant a tree in your backyard - and get your neighbours to do it too!
take a 'quick' shower instead of a 'loooooong' one.
change your lightbulbs to energy saving ones - you'll save RM200 a year on electricity bills.
keep your air-conditioning and heating systems properly maintained by
changing air filters and keeping air conditioner coils clean.
the jakeman says i can do this so, i am going to give my online business a free plug!
in case your wondering why i am doing this: it is a business that started with a few friends about 3 months ago. setting up a business (albeit an online one) has taught me so many things.
it's amazing what you can learn about customers, strategies, trends, marketing techniques, bla, bla bla... all the things i learnt in school and college, now can finally be put to good use!
it also gives us all something to do in our free time (although now, it takes up most of my free time!)
if your wondering what part i play in the business, i do the website, designs and the 'online order' part of it. the rest handle the accounts, stocks, prices, etc.
